Cambodian Investor Seeks Justice Over Alleged Breach of Trust by YY Capital Chairman
(Phnom Penh) – An investor and shareholder of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally requested the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia to intervene in a case involving alleged misconduct by Yamada Taihei, the company’s Chairman of the Board. The investor claims that Yamada, a Japanese national, engaged in actions that breached trust and caused significant financial losses.
According to the letters submitted, Yamada is accused of embezzling and misappropriating funds by exploiting his position to inflate real estate purchase prices, resulting in an estimated loss of around USD 4 million for personal gain and the benefit of accomplices.
The allegations further state that Yamada made unilateral decisions that undermined the authority of other shareholders. He reportedly orchestrated fictitious business transactions, including loans totaling over USD 7 million, and used the names of well-known corporations to deceive investors. Additional claims include document forgery, diversion of large sums of cash through shell companies, and potential links to money laundering, with part of the funds allegedly transferred to an overseas bank account in the name of Yamada’s wife.
The letters also indicate that Yamada established multiple companies in countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia, appointing nominees to act as company representatives while retaining control over financial operations himself.
In Cambodia, Yamada and his associates are already facing at least two criminal cases, with several assets and bank accounts frozen by court order. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities in other countries—including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States—are reportedly examining him for financial crimes.
Through these submissions, the investor urges Cambodian authorities and courts to conduct a thorough investigation, ensure justice is served, and prevent any undue influence or interference that might allow the accused to evade accountability or compromise evidence and witness testimony.
